A Victorian inner suburb

Bensham grew through the Victorian era as Gateshead expanded away from its riverside core, its terraced streets among the closest to central Newcastle of anywhere south of the Tyne. It's long been one of Gateshead's more diverse and densely populated residential districts, a short walk from both Gateshead town centre and the Metrocentre.
