Kibblesworth

A colliery village

Kibblesworth grew, like so many settlements across this borough, around its own coal mine, its terraced streets laid out to house the workforce in the standard pattern of the era. Mining here, as across the wider Durham coalfield, wound down through the 20th century, leaving a residential village on Gateshead's southern boundary.
