Lemington
A riverside district with its own long history of glass and iron.
Glass on the Tyne
Lemington's riverside location made it, like much of this stretch of the Tyne, a natural site for heavy industry — glassmaking and ironworking both had a presence here through the 18th and 19th centuries, part of the same industrial corridor running out from Newcastle towards Newburn and Blaydon. The area has been substantially residential for generations now, its industrial past visible mostly in place names and the odd surviving structure along the riverbank.
