Inland of the seaside

Monkseaton grew up just inland of Whitley Bay, sharing something of that town's Victorian and Edwardian growth as North Tyneside's coast became a popular destination, without quite the same seafront-resort character. It remains a well-established, largely residential suburb today, with its own Metro station on the coastal loop described on this site's Metro & Ferry page.
