Sandyford's streets of Victorian terraced housing were built to extend Newcastle's centre outward as the city grew through the 19th century, sitting between the commercial core and the grander villas of Jesmond just beyond. It remains a dense, walkable inner-city district today, popular for its proximity to the city centre and the universities.
