A colliery village

Shiremoor developed as a mining village in the same coalfield that shaped Backworth and Murton nearby, its terraced streets laid out for a workforce that has long since moved on to other industries. Today it's a residential village close to the Silverlink retail and business area, on the approach to the coast.
