Woolsington

A village that grew an airport

Woolsington was a small rural settlement north of Newcastle until 1935, when a stretch of its land was chosen as the site of the city's new municipal airport — now Newcastle International Airport, and the northern terminus of the Metro's Green Line. The historic village itself, including Woolsington Hall, remains a much smaller and quieter neighbour to the airport that now shares its name in everyday use.
